week eight

grass update! in just a few short weeks.... we have a lawn!!! granted, it's patchy and we shouldn't walk on it much but we have a lawn!! it was so frustrating at first.. watering 3x a day.. watching.. waiting... praying... hoping..... pleading..... one day there was no sign of life.... the next day looked like we had a green mold/growth. at first i thought it was a fungus and thought, "oh great! now we have to scrape it all off and start over again!" on closer inspection.. IT WAS GRASS!!!!

so now our dust bowl is turning into a beautiful lawn. [too bad this isn't our place but we're making it beautiful anyway !]

a few more weeks and we'll have a full lawn! now if only we could get the perimeter weeded and wood chips down.. looks like another weekend job!

week five

grass. ahh to have that wonderful lush green lawn! we've been living in this home for about a year and a half and have been working on de-cluttering our lives. this has been a process that has been going on for years.. and i don't know if it will ever end! i am hopeful that it will continue to get better as the months and years progress. we [meaning mostly me, as i am the one that seems to be a pack-rat.. thank you gran!] have already gotten rid of a TON of useless stuff. what does this have to do with grass you ask? it is simple... we moved into this duplex and the "lawn" was lumpy dirt with weeds, children's toys, dog bones and trash. add to that our boxes and stuff that doesn't fit in the house and you have a regular white-trash yard. ick! with a 2 year old it is difficult [to say the least] to get anything done [and stay done]. so projects are done in large spurts and we are so tired afterwards that the thought of facing the next 'spurt' is even more exhausting!

after a few times of de-weeding the yard throughout the past year and a half, we prepped the area with all organics and spread the seed. cameron did most of the heavy work with the 'assistance' of the 2 yr old. water 3x daily and we should see grass! our plan is to have a lush beautiful lawn by the 4th of july. lets see how that turns out!
